Hyundai's (the parent company of Kia) signature Electric Global Modular Platform, E-GMPA, is the premier electromechanical feature incorporated within the all-new Kia EV9. The Electric Global Modular Platform is the top-of-the-line underbody architecture developed by Hyundai specifically for electric vehicles. The Kia EV9 is only the second Kia vehicle, after the EV6 to use this underpinning structure. This underbody is also used by the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7, with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60 currently using it.
It consists of a chassis that includes the battery, motor, and power electric system. The EV9 offers rear-wheel (as standard with rear motor) and all-wheel drive (optional with front and rear motors) variants. It will also offer outstanding driving stability due to the low center of gravity of its construction. The SUV also arrives with maximized safety for its passengers due to its ultra-high-strength steel frame.
One of the top features of the 2024 Kia EV9 is its stunning and exclusive exterior. The exterior showcases a futuristic appearance with an eye-catching presence and a triangular shape, combined with modern and innovative features. The front view looks outright futuristic due to the Digital Tiger Face with the Kia logo and the LED projection headlights.

The upcoming EV9 is the first Kia vehicle to use Hyundai's Level 3 autonomous driving capability-the Highway Driving Pilot (HDP). Kia claims that this system fulfills the requirements for delivering the Level 3 autonomous driving in certain regions of the world. This highly advanced system uses 15 sensors, including two LIDARs, and a 360-degree camera to provide real-time driving assistance. With this L3 autonomous driving, the EV9 will surpass the Tesla Model X's Level 2 autonomous driving capability. However, this feature will only be available in the future GT-Line editions only, as confirmed by Kia; the Genesis G90 will also use the HPD system.
At present, only few electric SUVs are available on the North American market with three-row seating. These SUVs include the likes of the Rivian R1S, Mercedes EQS, Tesla Model X, and Model Y. Among these SUVs, only the Model Y starts with a base price of less than $75,000. Compared to them, the 2024 Kia EV9 could actually be the only three-row electric SUV with a sensible price tag. But, this could last only till VinFast's VF9 and the VW ID.Buzz is released, both of which will be cheaper than the EV9.
